The last castle of japan located in a remote island!![対訳]とある離島の日本最後の城郭

 ISHIDA Castle, which is the last castle to be built as part of the castle system in Japan, is also known as FUKUE Castle.  It's commissioned by the last feudal lord of the FUKUE feudal fief, Morinori Goto, and completed in 1863, when the Japanese feudal system was nearly over.

 That's why ISHIDA Castle is often called “Last Castle”!! And,this unique castle built on ISHIDA beach(※) as a rarely seen “Seaside Castle”, was constructed as an early warning post for foreign ships approaching the Japanese shore.
 It's the only castle in japan that had three sides facing the sea and was therefore ideal to be used as a coastal defense,but in 1868,only five years after its completion,the castle system in Japan was dissolved as part of the MEIJI Restoration.
 As a result of this, “The Inner Citadel(Honmaru)”,the main enclosure of the castle was destroyed and is currently being used by “The Prefectural Goto Senior High School”.
 In addition,the ISHIDA beach was buried to expand the area of this water front quarter 50 years ago.
 Entering the inside of “The Inner Citadel(Honmaru)”,I still felt that this castle was built as an early warning post,and was ideal fortress to be used as a coastal defense. And then,I can imagine the beauty created by the contrast of the castle with stone walls and pine trees against the ocean!!!!

　日本における城郭制度下では最後の建造となる石田城は、福江城とも称されて居り, 福江藩最後の藩主、五島盛徳の命により、日本の封建制度が終焉を迎えようとしていた1863年に完成しました。

それゆえ、最後の城と称されることも有りますし、また、稀に見る海城として石田の浜(※)に築かれたこのユニークな城は、日本近海に出没する外国船の早期警戒駐屯地として建造されました。
　当城は、日本で唯一、三方を海に囲まれた城郭だったゆえ、海防上理想的でありましたが、完成の僅か５年後の1868年に、日本の城郭制度は、明治維新の一環で消滅してしまいました。
　その結果、本丸は取り壊されてしまい、現在、本丸跡は、県立五島高等学校となっております。
　加うるに、石田の浜も、５０年ほど前に臨海地区を拡張するために埋め立てられてしまいました。
　それでも、本丸に入りますと、この城が、早期警戒駐屯地として築かれ、海防上、理想的な要塞であった事を未だに感じましたし、海に面した城の石垣と松の木が織りなす美しさが、目に浮かぶようでした。
