Rarely seen Japanese festival in FUKUE-jima of GOTO ISLANDS([対訳]五島列島福江島の奇祭),"HETOMATO Festival(へトマト祭り)"

It‘s the footage ofrarely seen festival of Hetomto-matsuri held in SHIMOSAKIYAMA in FUKUE-jima ofGOTO ISLANDS on 15^th January 2017.
This indigenous festival is Goto Island’s unique way of praying for a good spring harvest and fishingseason.

Richly-varied festival opening with sumo-wrestling dedicatedto Shirahama Shrine followed by HANETUKI, a traditional game played at New Year,played by newly married women to tell a fortune related to a rich harvest ,KEMARI, a football like game played in ceremonial dress, and a giant strawsandal (3m, 300kg) being paraded around town carried by men clad in nothing butloincloths, hoisting randomly chosen unsuspecting single women onto the giantone!!

Incidentally,this unique festival is decsignated asa National important intangible Property of Folk Culture.

2017年1月15日に五島列島福江島は下崎山地区で行われましたへトマト祭りと言う奇祭の様子です。この五島古来の祭りは豊作・豊漁を願うユニークなものです。

このバラエティーに富んだお祭りは白浜神社への奉納相撲を皮切りに新婚の女性たちによる豊作を占う羽根つきや蹴鞠と続き、さらには３ｍ、300㎏もの大わらじがフンドシ一丁の男たちが担いで、油断している若い女性を次々に乗せながら町中を練り歩きます!!

 因みにこの独特なお祭りは、国の重要無形民俗文化財に指定されております。
