Hello everyone!! Today, I'm taking part in KABASHIMA
island tour organaized by GOTO city. The main courses of the tour are the tour
of the huge stone quarry which is the one of the largest ones in KYUSYU, and
onboard viewing of sea cliffs including the rarely seen one with sea cave.
Now we’re sailing from the port of FUKUE to KABASHIMA island by the
marine taxi!!
KABASHIMA
island, 16 km off the coast of FUKUE, can be accessed by a 30 minutes boat
cruise.
After
the comfortable cruising viewing the magnificent archipelago seascape, our
marine taxi is entering the private port for the stone quarry, and is docking
at the private wharf of the stone quarry company named SHINKO SANGYO.
And, as
you can see, there‘s the huge stone
quarry overthere!!
This
stone quarry with the huge excavated face some 1km long and 260 meters high is
producing riprap used for shoreline protection works.
And now,
we‘re going around
the quarry riding in the huge dump trucks one by one!!
And the
end of the tour, we had a great time viewing the magnificent archipelago
seascape from the upper part of the Quarry!!
Incidentally,according
to the SHINKO SANGYO‘s staff guiding
the tour, the rock formation we can see over there is called columnar jointing,
which can be seen in TOJINBOU-cliffs on the Japan Sea. It’s suitable for producing a rectangular block of hewn stone. So, our
riprap is well known for its high quality thanks to this.
After
the stone quarry tour, we are going to enjoy the onboard viewing of sea cliffs!!

<日本語版>皆さん、今日は!! 今日は、五島市主催の椛島巡り参加して居ります。このツアーのメインコースは、九州でも最大級の巨大採石場見学と稀有な海中洞穴を始めとした海蝕崖の船上からの見学です。
で、今、まさに福江港から椛島に向けて海上タクシーに乗って出航です。椛島は、福江島から海上16kmにあり、30分ほどの航海で到着です。
壮大な多島海景観を眺めながらの快適なクルーズの後、一行の乗った海上タクシーは、採石場専用港に入港し、真興産業という採石会社専用埠頭に着桟です。
向こうにご覧の通りの巨大な採石場があります!!
全長約１キロ、高さ260メートルという巨大な切羽を持つ当採石場は、護岸工事用の捨石を生産しています。
さて、これから、ツアー一行は、ひとりずつ巨大な砕石運搬車に乗り込んで採石場巡りです!!
そして、ツアーの最後では、採石場の上部から雄大な多島海景観を眺めながら楽しい時間を過ごしました!!
因みに、案内役の真興産業職員さんのよると、向こうに見える岩層は、柱状節理と言い、日本海を臨むあの東尋坊でも見られるもので、柱状節理は、四角い形の石を切り出すのに適しているとの事。
なので、同社の捨石は、お陰様で高品位で知られる由。
採石場見学の後は、一行は、船上からの海食崖見物を楽しむ予定です。
